Essentials

  • Examine the pedagogy, uncover characteristics of quality arts integration. Discover why a shared definition and approach to teaching is essential to a school community that is working towards adoption of arts integration as an instructional focus.

  • Analyze research-based visual literacy strategies that emphasize student thinking. This training includes Visual Thinking Strategies and Harvard Project Zero’s Artful Thinking Routines using Fine Art/ Design examples. Consider how these art pieces can connect to math concepts/ number talks as well as hook observers into a social studies or science concept. This training addresses the importance of the teacher’s line of questioning when facilitating a class discussion. We explore ways to encourage students to articulate their thinking by using these high-yield thinking routines in the classroom.

  • Explore the elements of art and principles of design through interacting with a variety of media including collage, sculpture, and drawing techniques. This workshop equips teachers with basic art-making techniques and ways to integrate digital tools into the Creative Process when teaching the core subjects. Assessment examples will be embedded in the workshop experience.

  • Explore a variety of movement and choreographic strategies that can be used across the curriculum. This workshop embeds assessment examples with each strategy and shows examples on ways the strategy can be differentiated to meet a range of learning needs.

  • Explore a variety of drama and role-playing strategies that can be used across the curriculum. This workshop embeds assessment examples with each strategy and shows examples on ways the strategy can be differentiated to meet a range of learning needs.

  • Explore a variety of music elements and strategies that can be used across the curriculum. This workshop embeds assessment examples with each strategy and shows examples on ways the strategy can be differentiated to meet a range of learning needs.

  • When developing a robust and balanced arts integrative plan for a school, providing arts access to students is paramount. We can help with curating experiences that align to curricular objectives in place through partnering with organizations such as The High Museum, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Center for Puppetry Arts and the Alliance Theatre.

Advancing

  • This workshop explores how the arts can be used in small group settings to leverage differentiation in a classroom. There will a section of the day exploring math and part exploring ELA.

  • Partner with world- renown puppeteers and arts integration specialists to explore designing and implementing puppetry into the classroom. A focus will be on the Engineering Process, the Writing Process, and the assessments that can be used.

  • Partner with renown authors and poets to explore poetry. This Poetry Slam residency is a year-long program that can highlight the literary arts and allow students to discover their love for language.

  • Partner values the programming that the Woodruff Arts Center offers educators including the Alliance Theatre, the High Museum, and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. We partner with some of Atlanta’s best artists to curate a variety of choice sessions for teachers that may pique interest such as music composition, improv across curriculum, poetry in motion, museum experiences, etc.

  • This is a training geared for art specialists, specifically K-5 music and visual arts teachers. This is a boot camp experience that prepares school teams for launching a STEAM Musical experience for students. This workshop trains teachers on how to facilitate the DreamBox Theatre STEAM Musical curriculum so they can produce a show for the school community.

  • This workshop or series of workshops supports a school aiming to foster collaboration among art specialists and general classroom teachers. This experience includes curriculum mapping with art specialists and finding ways to intersect talents and create school-wide projects such as a Poetry Slam, Playwriting Festival, etc. The goal of advancing arts integration is to be intentional in how the art experts in your building partner up with one another.

Instructional Leadership

  • This workshop invites us to share our curriculum and examine it both vertically and horizontally (concepts and themes both in the core content area and fine arts classrooms). Once a school-wide comprehensive curriculum map is created, it can be a resource for teachers to collaborate and fine arts teachers to offer arts integrated support when planning arts integrated lessons and projects.

  • Explore best practices on how teachers and students can systematically document arts integration or STEAM learning in the classroom. Arts integrative learning is process-oriented but often times we only see the end product on display. How do we capture those magical moments of student learning along the way? Emphasis is on how to capture this type of learning in action: student artifacts, reflections, assessments, and learning outcomes. We will examine examples of physical “Process Boards” and also digital versions that capture the process of integrated learning.

  • This workshop is geared to explore ways in which the arts can be used to demonstrated student understanding or mastery of content. This workshop can walk school leaders through how to set data-informed goals and conduct action research on the impact the arts have on student achievement. This workshop will also provide schools with observation look-fors and advice when assembling a school steering committee for arts integration.

*We are not limited by this list of example workshops and trainings. We are intentional about aligning our training with your existing school/ district goals. We are open to dreaming up unique partnerships not captured here.
